A lot of house for less than you might think. This 1930s art deco house in Oakenholt, Flintshire, North Wales is up for sale.

Known as Ty Gwyn, it sits on the edge of the village of Oakenholt, with a spot that offers rural views towards the Dee Estuary.

It was built in 1936 but isn’t completely original. Back in 1994, the house had a ‘significant extension’ which looks to be in keeping with the original structure. As far as I know, the new part is on the front with the bow window, which frames a view of that Estuary.

Yes, it does look like it is part of the original building and overall, both the structure and interior look faithful to the era both inside and out. There are some parts of this one that look fairly modern, particularly the large kitchen area, but that is to be expected of a house over 80 years old.

But looking at the images (which are limited in number sadly), some of the other rooms have barely changed and the bathroom has the original tiling in place. So definitely one that might appeal to the purists.

The front door opens into what is described as an ‘imposing’ reception hall with parquet flooring, which also runs throughout the lounge and dining room. Beyond that is the large kitchen with breakfast bar, contemporary cabinets and all the appliances you could hope for.

The lounge is dual-aspect, with a bay window boosting the light and views, while the dining room has an original cast-iron open fireplace with coloured tile insets. Off the dining room, through French doors, is an aluminium-framed conservatory. Finally, the ‘new’ part’ of the house is the family room with open fireplace, along with a downstairs shower room. You also get access to the integral garage too.

The first floor is made up of a ’spacious’ landing, the master bedroom with en-suite shower room and access to the large balcony area, three further double bedrooms (two with tiled fireplaces) and the family bathroom with original Vitrolite green and black tiles.

The outside space is worth talking about too.Ty Gwyn is approached through a gated entrance onto a gravel driveway leading to courtyard parking to the front of the house. The gardens are terraced, leading down to a stream.

So a large plot and an equally sizeable house. All of that with a guide price of £399,000.
